Angel Biscuits

Add 1 pkg. rapid-rise yeast with 3-4 T. warm water.

Mix dry ingredients together:

  • 4 C. flour
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 1 T. baking powder
  • 3 T. sugar

Cut in 3/4 C. vegetable shortening until mixture resembles coarse corn meal.

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients mixture, and stir in the yeast-water and 1 C. buttermilk. Add flour as needed to make the batter pliable for handling.

Roll out to approximately 1/2 inch, cut biscuits and place on ungreased baking sheet.

Can be cooked immediately or up to 2 hours later at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes. Biscuits are done when the tops are golden brown.
